Chelsea Flower Show: Plant of the Year 2018

A panel of over 100 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) plant experts evaluated the entries for Plant of the Year 2018 using three judging criteria:

  • Innovation
  • Excellence and impact
  • Appeal

The top three rated plants are presented below. Look for them in your local garden centres and nurseries.

Winner, Plant of the Year 2018: Hydrangea Runaway Bride Snow White.

What sets this lacecap Hydrangea apart from others is its flowering habit from both terminal and lateral buds. It’s also a prolific flowerer from early summer through autumn and has an elegant trailing habit.

Second Place: Eryngium ‘Blue Waves’.

This Eryngium (Sea Holly) has striking blue thistle-like cones, bracts, and stems. Its strong upright, branched stems do not require staking. Moreover, it has long-lasting and repeat flowers from June.

Third Place: Helianthus annuus Sunbelievable Brown Eyed Girl.

This non-stop bloomer can produce hundreds of bi-colour sunflowers for up to six months. It’s unbelievable.
