A growing number of gardeners are abandoning insecticides and relying on beneficial insects to control garden pests. Beneficial insects are an attractive and safe alternative to chemical insecticides. Moreover, if you create a hospitable habitat for native beneficials, you could also save money by attracting more beneficial insects that are already living in your area.

The infographic below from OrganicLesson.com, contains a list of seven common beneficial insects, their prey, and what will attract them to your garden. See the OrganicLesson.com website for a list of 14 beneficial insects (OrganicLesson.com).

Please be aware that although more and more garden centres, nurseries, and the internet are selling live insects, you may need a special permit to purchase and introduce non-native species of insects in your local area.
